Dear all, you will probably have read about the Hundested fitted in Lisa Maria. I have been asked to write the next chapter but I refuse to sit in front of the pc during the summer. Summer evenings are too precious in Scotland. I do promise to write more in the autumn. Suffice to say that we have been out twice now and the engine ran well, the parts round about gave some problems.
Best wishes to all,
Derek. July 2005.

Reading book of ketches in Tasmanian waters from 1900- 1970s. Bolinder mentioned regularly. So look up Google, and here you are, number 1 mention on their site. Am putting a collection of older marine motors together, but I've never seen a Bolinder. Any one in Tassie got one they would part with??
Interesting site, lots of good stuff! Tedee

Just stumbled across your website - most interesting.
A Bolinder related story, and one I'm sure most will recognise!
A "friend" used to boast that he never failed to start his engine first
time, right direction EVERY time.  After a good night in the pub we heard
the sound of his blowlamp as the warm up started as normal, he did the
kick, then shot backwards out of the engineer room door and landed in the
hedge.
Pride comes before the flight...

A slight change of subject, in steam engine terms the "widget" supporting
the thermostat is often known as a lantern ring - self explanatory.

Hi, All!

I would very much like to know what became of the office Bolinder once had (circa 1962) in London (UK). In particular I would be interested in the books of account of that period.

Rather of an odd request, I admit, but there is a very special reason why some of these (Cash Books, General Ledgers and Personal Ledgers) should be preserved for as long as any Bolinder would last, i.e. just about forever!

Many thanks.

Good morning! We are looking for a Bolinder Historian! On Lake Titicaca, Peru, the original steam engine in the gunboat-cum-tramp steamer, YAVARI (built in 1862 in GB and carried piecemeal up the Andes to the Lake to be re-assembled and launched in 1870) was replaced in 1914 by a Bolinder 4 cylinder Model M II BHP 320 RPM 225. Following a complete overhaul, this engine is fully operational.

Our query is whether, given the date and model, was it designed to run on parrafin or diesel and if diesel, which grade?

Within the programme to modify the YAVARI to 21st century safety standards, we are working on perfecting the Bolinder's performance.
The full story of the YAVARI is told on www.yavari.org

A supplimentary:- we know of an engine of this size, though not as old, in Stockholm Lightship, but does anyone know of any other of this type anywhere?

Any information gratefully received. Meriel Larken (Project Director)
