Starting Devices

  Hand Starting
As Standard the engine is fitted with a crank and decompression device for hand starting. The
starting crank is located on a special bracket above the flywheel. Cranking movement is
transferred to the crankshaft by chain and sprocket wheels. The arrangement includes automatic
releases of the crankshaft sprocket as soon as the engine starts.

Electric Starting
The engine can also be fitted with electric starting equipment consisting of starter motor, charging
generator with relay, instruments and starter battery. The generator is mounted on the right-hand side of the cylinder block, seen from the flywheel end, and is V-belt driven from a pulley on the
crankshaft. The starter motor is under the generator. The starter motor drive pinion is engaged
with the flywheel ring gear by a magnet on the single-cylinder engine and by displacement of the
entire armature on the two-cylinder engine. The relay of voltage regulation type is mounted on
the generator. Battery negative poles are earthed to the engine.
