ANDORRA

Narrowboat ANDORRA was built by Dennis Cooper, Canal Transport Services at Norton
Canes
in 1972. The Hull is Josher style to a very High Standard.
Her history from 1972 is currently unknown apart from the name JAGNEY
Photo To Follow

JAGNEY was purchased by Mike Pipes in August 1978 he says,

"We had a weekend with friends on a hire boat in 1978 and I went out and bought a boat on impulse really. I bought it from Davison Marine at Sawley on the Trent, and kept it moored at the marina there for £5 odd per week. The boat was still called Jagney when I sold it August 1979 the day before I got married (just had the silver anniversary). The paintwork was originally flat maroon but wasflaking and I repainted it green, yellow & red as your website photos. Some of the internalflooring was replaced whilst I had it but not much else was done. I advertised the boat in WW and sold it to a chap named Mr P A Bunn who was from Soberton, Hampshire He came up and had a look at it, took it out and decided against buying initially. Two weeks later he was back and acquired it on 24th August 1979 for £7000. He owned a garden centre or nursery and sent us a crate of shrubs the following year for our garden so he must have been happy with it".

Other memories -

Chemical toilet (pump out), 12v power, electric pumped water with pressure switch, all froze
up over the 78/79 winter, coal stove, double bedroom at the rear, two side access hatches,
aluminium framed windows, removable chimney. There was a workshop manual (Now on this site)
or something similar for the engine that Bunn (quite rightly) wanted including in the sale.
The superstructure cladding was 'Iolite' I think, waterproof external grade hardboard in reasonable condition. The roof had a few leaks that were solved by repainting with special thick roof paint from the Sawley chandlery.

The engine was the same single cylinder Bolinder as in your pictures and was always being
commented on by passers by for its distinctive sound. It always started well once you had
the 'knack'. I can still smell it now......

Jagney's name was changed to SCOTIA after August 1979 (when?) and to ANDORRA in 2004.

In 1982 Braunston Canal Services replaced the wooden front cants with steel.
In 1983 by Mike Heywood at Great Heywood, At this time Mike Heywood built
the front cockpit and gas lockers and refitted the interior.

The Engine is A Bolinder 1051 apparently of 1953 origin.
Malcolm Brain Suggested the engine came from the Thomas Clayton Tar Boat Seven
but this has not been confirmed.

re-fitted and has been used the year round.
